Session Description:
In the heart of the Sunshine State, agriculture thrives, but so does food insecurity. How can 40% of food be wasted and 1 in 9 Floridians are food insecure? This session aims to shed light on the crucial aspects of food recovery and diversion in Florida. With a focus on actionable strategies and solutions, this session will explore innovative approaches from MEANS Database, Society of St. Andrew and Florida Department of Environmental Protection to keep food out of the landfill and onto people’s plates.

Emily Grant, Senior Program Manager, MEANS Database
I am deeply passionate about food recovery, social justice, gardening and art. I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in Urban Studies and Spanish, and I am currently learning Portuguese so I can speak with my husband’s family in Brazil. I have over 7 years of experience program planning and over 5 years of professional work in the Florida food system. When I am not coordinating the donation of excess food, you can find me taking care of my 40+ plants, playing with my dog Ziggy, or being a cookie monster.
Meghan C. Baxley, Panhandle Gleaning Coordinator, Society of St. Andrew
I am a 20 year HR professional as my profession with a passion for food recovery. I am a life long Florida panhandle resident. I began working for Society of St. Andrew in August of 2023 part-time and our goal is to bring food recovery through gleaning to the panhandle.
