Sorting Light Metals Tons Faster with LIBS
Steve Buckley,Vice President and General Manager of the Applied Systems, Ocean Insight
This presentation covers emerging Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) technology - how it works, handheld and in-line systems, and implementations for sorting. We discuss cases with proven recovery of particular alloys, separation of wrought from cast aluminum, and other benefits of this exciting technology in the field.
Steve Buckley is the Vice President and General Manager of the Applied Systems business at Ocean Insight, an affiliate associate professor at the University of Washington, and has started and advised numerous companies in spectroscopy and in applications of machine learning. He has approximately 40 peer-reviewed publications and 6 patents. The work of the Applied Systems business at Ocean centers around practical optical spectroscopy, such as LIBS, Raman, novel imaging systems, and on-line color measurement.
