Material and Energy Recovery at the Palm Beach Renewable Energy Park
Raymond H. Schauer, Director of Engineering and Public Works, Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County
Presentation will provide a comprehensive summary of The Solid Waste Authority's integrated waste management system and the resulting recovery of material and energy from all the waste collected in Palm Beach County. The processing system includes a dual stream Recovered Materials Processing Facility, a Biosolids Processing Facility and two(2) Renewable Energy Facilities. The system presentation will also include a discussion of the Authority's comprehensive public education/outreach program.
Since receiving his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, Mr. Schauer has had over 45 years of capital facility planning, design, construction, and operations experience including both domestic and international projects. Mr. Schauer is currently the Director of Engineering and Public Works for the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County, Florida. His responsibilities in this position include directing the operations and maintenance of the Authority’s renewable energy/ recovered materials facilities. These facilities include a 2,000TPD/60MW Refuse Derived Fuel Facility Renewable Energy Facility #1(REF#1), a new $680M, 3000TPD/95MW Mass Burn Renewable Energy Facility #2 (REF#2), a Recovered Material Processing Facility, and a 600 TPD Biosolids Processing Facility. Prior to his current position, Mr. Schauer was responsible for the planning and implementation of the Authority’s $1.1B Capital Improvement Program that, in addition to the design and construction of REF #2, included the refurbishment of REF#1, the new Recovered Materials Processing Facility, the new Biosolids Processing Facility, a Landfill Operations Building, and two new Transfer Stations.
